Artist's Comments

well, it's finally finished, spent alot of time on this piece, tried new techniques for the nebs and spent a ton of time on blending cause it just wouldnt work out the way i wanted. i think the final image looks pretty good. stock from stock.xchng as always. i'm also really happy with my planet, i'll most likely put it up as a resource later this week.

comments and :+fav:'s are always apreciated, and i neve hated Constructive Critisism either.

Great work man, maybe there need more space between the city and the "moon"/"planet". It seems to near or too big, but it's only my impression. Anyway, it's a great work, congratulations.

thanks, making more space could have allowed for a better transition, but i think this adds to the surreal nature of the image.

yes, it's true. In this way the image is more surreal!

good pic there, but i think that the planet/moon looks odd, because the planet fades out then just stops. the fading from the light side to the dark side of it doesn't go that well.

hmm ya, i spent so long trying to work that transition, still had trouble, not sure really how i could resolve that though, seeing as how the rest of the planet is black due to shadows.

hmz some parts are good but is aint super, that planet is made with an terragen texure isn't it ?
Starfield is good.
Stardust very very very good.
The bright star is nice but u can see u use blending option screen so is the stardust i dont know how to explain. But i'll try: the light of the bright star should reach much further but is just suddenly stops, as a matter of facts u can even see the line were it stops
:iconmadhatter80:
thanks for the comment, the planet texture isnt terragen, it's just a pic of rocks that i manipulated. as for that star, that area was seeming really bland so i tried to spice it up lol, but i've never done anything like that before so it didnt turn out too well lol.

I was looking through your gallery and this piece really caught my eye, it's not often I try to comment on digital art either, it's not my speciality, but this piece really is quite good.

The surface of the planet that you said was a manipulated photo is really great, it's detailed and adds somewhat of a sense of mystery to the piece, makes me wonder what actual is on that planet, other than what we see.

The photo of the city below is great in this piece as the green lights, buildings, general busyness, and the angle it was taken on fit perfectly, adding to the sense of mystery and surrealism that you've created. Only thing that's a bit of a distraction to the eye that I can see there, is that tiny bit of building off the left, if you cropped that off the photo it might make the eye flow a bit better over that part of the piece.

The transitions between each part of the piece are great, there aren't any points in it that you look at and know that it's been put together like that, which is really good because it lets the viewer take in the piece as a whole, rather than stopping at a few points and thinking "that looks fake". Also, the positioning of the stars is good as you've not overcrowded the sky.

The only thing I can really suggest with this piece is to maybe move around the placement of the different visual elements in it. There are a lot of focal points in this piece, and not so much negative space to balance them out. If you were to maybe make the piece wider, or taller, and space them out a bit more, or perhaps remove one of the smoke pieces or the star, it would give the piece a better sense of balance and composition.

Also, you've used the rule of thirds almost perfectly, having the bottom third as the city, middle third as the planet, and top third as the sky with the star and smoke. Perhaps if you were to make the piece the slightest bit taller it would make the top third balance out the bottom two thirds a bit better, but other than that the composition is really good.

One thing I'm unsure of is the resolution at which you've submitted this, when you full view it, the piece is really large, it makes it hard to see the image as a whole properly, although it does give us a good look at the details. I think if you were to make it about half the size it is now it would still be good for the details, but give as a better look at the whole image. Also if you added a larger border I think it would set it off nicely. Other than that I think this is a really great image, congratulations!
